Before time there was the void, and alone in it Thessil ruled. He shaped and crafted the world that is known today as Hyfaer, and to this day he remains vigilant over it. To his dismay, those whom his sister Rytiock gave life shied away from his rule, looking to his eldest of siblings, Markin, as their target of faith and love. Thus the rivalry of gods came to be.
The followers of Thessil, known as Thessilians were shunned from the beginning, rejecting the light and all the rules that go with it. Those that remained after the Markinians purged their cities of his beloved followers, were ferried away into Heretic’s Respite with Thessil’s young sister, Nyriam. Today, few admittedly worship the God of Shadows, and even fewer still remain alive after admitting their faith, though rogues, assassins, spys and other ill-intentioned men ask for his blessing in their nightly business. Those that remain on the surface loyal to the creator of Hyfaer work toward his will of Markin’s downfall and possibly the downfall of all his siblings.
